GTA 6 Preload Date
Rockstar hasn't announced the preload date. Based on how they've handled past releases, we expect preloading to open 48–72 hours before November 19— putting it around November 16–17, 2026. Here's what to do while you wait.

Pre-orders haven't even opened yet (that's June 25). Preload typically opens weeks to months after pre-orders begin. We estimate the preload window opens around November 16–17, 2026.
What preloading actually means
When you preload a game, you download the encrypted game files to your console before launch. The files sit on your SSD but remain locked. At the exact moment the game goes live (midnight on November 19 in your region), a small decryption key downloads automatically and the game unlocks.
The big benefit:You're ready to play the second the clock hits midnight, instead of waiting hours for a 150–200GB download on a congested launch-night network.
Preload preparation checklist
Buy digital (not physical)

Free up 200GB+ of storage
RequiredGTA 6 is estimated at 150–200GB. Clearing space before preload opens means you won't be frantically deleting games at midnight.
Enable auto-downloads in rest mode
PS5: Settings → Power Saving → Rest Mode → Keep Connected to Internet. Xbox: Settings → General → Sleep & startup → Instant-on.
Wishlist the game on your platform's store
Both PS Store and Xbox Store will push a notification when preload becomes available, if you've wishlisted the game.

Rockstar will officially announce the preload date on their Newswire and social channels. We'll post it here the moment it drops.
When does the game actually unlock?
Games typically unlock at midnight local time in each region — not midnight in a single global timezone. So a player in Tokyo unlocks at midnight JST, and a player in New York unlocks later at midnight EST.
Some publishers use a global simultaneous unlock (typically set to midnight in New Zealand, the first major territory to hit November 19). We don't know which method Rockstar will use yet.

Does physical disc get a preload option?▾
No. You can only preload if you have a digital pre-order. Physical disc owners need the disc in hand to install the game. A large day-one patch will still be required regardless.
Can I preload before purchasing the game?▾
No. You need to have pre-ordered the digital version first. The preload download is tied to your account's licence.
What if I run out of storage while preloading?▾
The preload will fail or pause. This is why we recommend clearing space well before the preload window opens, not scrambling at the last minute. Target 200GB free to be safe.
